SBI Life Insurance


  • SBI Life was using multiple peripherals systems for different types of transactions. With Ingenium implementation all the data and peripheral systems are integrated with only one system and extracting information is so fast and easy.

About client

SBI Life Insurance is a joint venture between State Bank of India and BNP Paribas Cardif. NSEIT association with SBI Life Insurance is since 2013, for various testing and development assignments.

In December 2015, SBI Life has been using Indigo Policy Management System for processing of their applications. When they decided to migrate from existing PMS to new PMS and Ingenium has been selected as the new PMS and NSEIT was finalized as their Testing Partner for entire UAT.

There are approx 53 products in SBI Life Insurance which are supposed to get migrated to new PMS. They decided to split the products in 2 phases. Phase 1A consists of 5 Products (All Term Products) and included functions - New Business, Policy Owners Servicing & certain Payouts Workaround.

It was a challenging situation for NSEIT- as a Testing Partner, as the development was done by a different IT Company and there was a lot of dependency on SBI Life & Development Team.

Approach taken by NSEIT

  • Understanding the products and Functional Specifications of the changes, required in new PMS.

  • For Phase 1, approx 40000 Test Cases were prepared to cover all the processes, products and change requests for modules.

  • Test cases prepared are reusable, for products and processes.

  • Test Data preparations have been done well in advance to save time, during actual UAT.

  • Team segregation was done based on processes – New Business & Policy Servicing, to ensure all the modules are tested 100%.

  • Priorities were maintained for close monitoring of defects and maintain the TAT for resolution of defects.

  • Team imparted User Trainings, during & posts UAT.

  • Periodic reporting pattern was maintained, which would showcase achievement, risks and issues.

  • Delivery Timelines were met alongwith quality testing.

Activities performed by NSEIT

  • Domain Experts were deployed from Initial Phase.

  • Test Cases were prepared to cater all the product features & all the modules (New Business, Policy Servicing & Claims)

  • Periodic review have been done to ensure all the requirements have been captured laid in Requirement Traceability Matrix

  • Project Execution, Reporting & Monitoring was done under expert supervision


Understanding the existing system with their inter-connection to the peripheral systems.

  • Incorporating the 'Functional Specifications', which were not part of old PMS and were needed to incorporate in Ingenium - Compatible

  • Writing Test Cases of all the business processes and the functional requirements, keeping in mind their compatibility with Ingenium.


Covered all the business process and functional test cases.

  • Approx 30000 test cases kitty was prepared which majorly covered New Business,

  • Underwriting, Policy Servicing & Claims.

  • All the desired functional changes were also covered in the test cases.

  • User Training was imparted post implementation of all the modules, which boosted

  • confidence amongst the end-users.
